3 Essential Business Building Ingredients

There are 3 essential things that you need to have in order to grow your business online, no matter what you’re selling or how much experience you have.

This is true for digital products, physical products, services, high end coaching and everything in between.

To sell online, you need:

  1. Website traffic
  2. An offer (or something for sale)
  3. A followup strategy

If just one of those ingredients is missing, you’re going to have a really hard time selling anything!  An offer without traffic, will get no sales.  Traffic without an offer has no way of buying stuff.  And oftentimes, the follow-up is where you make the bulk of your money!

Here’s the good news…

Because the Internet is a big place, it’s more about ‘stitching’ together your sales strategy than creating something totally from scratch.

Here’s what I mean…

Getting Traffic

1426100619_traffic-light-512Traffic comes in a lot of shapes and sizes anymore.  You can run paid traffic from Adwords, Bing, Facebook or Twitter. This is the best strategy because it’s pretty instant.  You’ll be up and running with traffic flowing to your pages in no time.

You can also go after free traffic, which is a longer process and usually requires some sort of ‘asset’ like a group of friends on Facebook or Twitter, or an email list that you have access to.

The third type of traffic is affiliate traffic which is technically ‘free’ until there’s a sale that’s made.  At that point, it becomes ‘paid’ traffic!

We’ll get into the nuts and bolts of traffic types in a later post, but just know that traffic always has a cost.  You’re either paying for it in dollars, or your paying for it in time.  One way or the other, you’re paying for it.

Your Offer

1426100692_shopping-ok-512Oftentimes, people get hung up on the ‘offer’ part of the process.  To put it simply, your offer is wherever you ask to be paid.

Some of the most prevalent types of ‘internal’ offers that you’ll see are:

  • Low ticket offers – typically between $1 and $9, sometimes monthly
  • Standard offers – usually $10 to $99, sometimes monthly
  • Offers made from a webinar – $100 to $999 (these are a bit higher ticket)
  • Launch style offers – typically $1000 to $4000
  • Sales calls – usually $2000 to $10000

And don’t forget, affiliate offers are still ‘offers’!  Even if you’re collecting a lead and sending them to an affiliate page, there’s still an offer that’s being presented!

Your Follow-up Strategy

1426100773_check-circle-outline-512Following up is a critical part of growing your business online.  People will do business with you based on if they “know, like and trust” you.  The more they see you, and the more they receive from you, the better they’ll get to know you and the more they’ll buy.

Your follow-up strategy can take one or more forms, the most notable being:

  • Email autoresponders – this is the most common and cheap form of following up.
  • Phone calls – Less prevalent today than 10 years ago, phone calls are still hugely profitable…
  • Postcards and direct mail – Mailboxes are notoriously empty meaning it’s a great way of following up!
  • Retargeting pixels – retargeting is a paid ad strategy where your ads follow someone around the Internet.  When tied with good content, this strategy can be hugely effective!

Stitching It All Together

When you bring these three elements together and construct your sales funnel, you’ll be well on your way of selling more online.

Keep in mind, you don’t have to create all the offers!  You can couple affiliate offers into your mix and follow up strategy…
